BOARD MINUTES

 

TOWN OF COLUMBIA

REGULAR TOWN BOARD MEETING

    JUNE 11, 2009      

 

The Town of Columbia Town Board held a regular monthly meeting June 11, 2009, at the town building.

   

MEMBERS PRESENT: Supervisor Weiss, Councilmen Buddle, Keeler, Lynch, and Teletnick.

 

MEMBERS ABSENT: None

 

OTHERS PRESENT: Pat Woytowich, Clerk; Highway Supt., Aaron Smithson; John Murtha, Planning Board Chr.;                 Bernie Peplinski, Dist.#2 County Legislator;

 3 residents of the town

 

Supervisor Weiss called the meeting to order at 7:33 P.M.

Pledge of Allegiance

A motion was made by Councilman Teletnick, seconded by Councilman Keeler, to accept the minutes of May 14, 2009.

  VOTE:  All members voted aye.

 

A motion was made by Councilman Teletnick, seconded by Councilman Keeler, to accept the Supervisor and Town Clerk monthly reports.

  VOTE:  All members voted aye.

 

BILLS:  The Board audited the monthly bills.  A motion was made by Councilman Lynch, seconded by Councilman Buddle, to accept the following bills:

General Fund, #87 - #99 for $ 1,940.57

Trust & Agency, #6 for $ 382.26

Highway, Item 1, #8 - #13 for $ 11,249.21

Highway, Item 3, #45 - #48 for $ 856.16

Highway, Item 4, #39 - #41 for $ 1,721.64

 

  VOTE: All members voted aye.

 

DEPARTMENT REPORTS:

-HIGHWAY: Aaron reported

· the highway department has been working on Purdy Road – ditch work, shoulder work and tree work.  Hope to pave end of July

· roads have been cold patched and now mowing sides of roads

· Dropp Road to be paved this summer  (correction July 9th minutes)

The highway department will be on vacation July 6th through July 14th.Herkimer County will be matching roadways and driveways on McKoons Road.  When McKoons Road hardens they will put 2 coats of oil and stone down.

 

-PLANNING BOARD:

· John Murtha handed out minutes of May 20th Planning Board meeting

· Zoning Commission continues to go through the process

Letter from USDA regarding salt storage shed

 

COMMUNICATIONS:

Thank you from HCSWCD for donation to enviro-thon

 

OLD BUSINESS:

· Discussion on changing 2 year elected position to 4 year term.  Need resolution by board and will be mandatory referendum.  Would not take effect until January 2012.  Time to discuss and act in the future.

Discussion on the one dollar late fee charged for second mailing of tax notices.  Some towns do not charge and some do – it is up to the individual towns.  A motion was made by Councilman Buddle, seconded by Councilman Lynch, to adopt the following resolution # 09-03RESOLVED: The Town of Columbia Town Board, Herkimer County, New York, hereby will not charge one dollar late fee for extra mailing of unpaid tax bills.

VOTE: Buddle, aye; Keeler, aye; Lynch, aye; Teletnick, aye; Weiss, aye.

 

NEW BUSINESS: Councilman Lynch brought up the fact that the coffee maker in the hall does not work.  Further discussion.  Councilman Buddle will talk to the cafeteria manager at school to see what/where suggestions would be to replace it.

 

INPUT:  The Board received input from those attending.

 

A motion was made by Councilman Keeler, seconded by Councilman Teletnick, to adjourn.  The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 P.M.
