TOWN OF COLUMBIA REGULAR TOWN BOARD MEETING MAY 14, 2009
The Town of Columbia Town Board held a regular monthly meeting May 14, 2009, at the town building.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Supervisor Weiss, Councilmen Buddle, Keeler, Lynch, and Teletnick. MEMBERS ABSENT: None OTHERS PRESENT: Pat Woytowich, Clerk; Highway Supt., Aaron Smithson; John Murtha, Planning Board Chr.; 15 residents of the town
Supervisor Weiss called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M. Pledge of Allegiance A motion was made by Councilman Buddle, seconded by Councilman Lynch, to accept the minutes of April 9, 2009. VOTE: All members voted aye.
A motion was made by Councilman Teletnick, seconded by Councilman Keeler, to accept the Supervisor and Town Clerk monthly reports. VOTE: All members voted aye.
BILLS: The Board audited the monthly bills. A motion was made by Councilman Keeler, seconded by Councilman Teletnick, to accept the following bills: General Fund, #71 - #86 for $ 4,243.62 Trust & Agency, #5 for $ 382.26 Highway, Item 1, #3 - #7 for $ 3,139.11 Highway, Item 3, #39 - #44 for $ 143,854.77 Highway, Item 4, #33 - #38 for $ 8,046.64 VOTE: All members voted aye.
DEPARTMENT REPORTS: -PLANNING BOARD / ZONING COMMISSION: John Murtha reported that the planning board presently has no issues. The zoning commission received input from Mitch VanWinkler at last meeting. - GRANTS: John Murtha reported that he is continuing to pursue grant for salt storage building. -HIGHWAY: Aaron reported: • Copy of letter from NYSDOT stating that approved budget keeps CHIPS at same level as 08-09. • 2009 International has arrived. Equipment has been serviced for summer work • Prep work will begin on Purdy Rd. Dirt roads have been repaired and cold patched where needed Discussed back parking lot.-TAX COLLECTOR: Shelly Burke questioned $1.00 late charge for taxes paid after second mailing goes out.
CORRESPONDENCE: · Insurance company notified to town that NYS has raised fee from $5 to $10 per vehicle · June 27 -28 free fishing days · 2 complaints were received – board reviewed and they will be passed on to Zoning Officer. Herkimer County Tax sale is May 30th
-OLD BUSINESS: Bill Keeler reported that “trash day” went very well.
-NEW BUSINESS: Bill Keeler had legal notice that the Town of Stark will be holding a mandatory referendum to change office of highway superintendent from 2 years to 4 years. Suggested that we look into the same.
INPUT: The Board received input from those attending.
A motion was made by Councilman Keeler, seconded by Councilman Buddle, to have an executive meeting for a legal issue. The board entered executive session at 8:25.
The board returned to open session at 8:50 pm with no action taken in executive meeting.
A motion was made by Councilman Keeler, seconded by Councilman Lynch, to adjourn. The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 P.M.
